Freight logistics generates 7–8% of global GHG emissions, making it a significant part of the transport sector’s 16–25% share (World Economic Forum, 2025), and current progress falls short of the Paris 1.5 °C target (UNFCCC, 2018). AI presents a practical solution by using real-time data to optimize routes, reduce loading delays, improve driver behavior, and enable predictive maintenance, cutting freight emissions by 4–7%. It also tackles costly inefficiencies like empty truck journeys, which waste about US $150 billion annually in the U.S (Handley, 2022), by better matching supply and demand. In practice, AI tools have already shown impact, with one airline pilot project increasing load factor by 8% and preventing tens of thousands of tonnes of CO₂ emissions (Mohd Hasan Wong, 2024).
